Overview

The Art of the Glide: Erg Chebbi Sandboarding

In the heart of the southeast, the village of Merzouga serves as the gateway to a vertical world of wonder. Sandboarding in Morocco is an invitation to master the steep, forgiving slopes of the Sahara, offering an adrenaline rush that is as exhilarating as it is serene. Unlike the icy mountains of the north, these dunes offer a warm, year-round embrace, providing a safe and spectacular environment for both first-time gliders and seasoned boarders seeking a new horizon.

Your journey begins at the edge of the dunes, where the shifting light creates a breathtaking backdrop against the distant Atlas Mountains. Guided by our local experts, you will navigate to the most pristine, untouched slopes. From the slow, steady rhythm of a camel ride to the summit, to the high-speed descent back to the valley, every moment is a celebration of the desert’s raw beauty and the simple, profound joy of movement.

Everything you need to know about your Desert activity

Sandboarding is a joy for all ages! As long as you can manage the walk up the dune, you can enjoy the glide down. We have smaller boards for children and professional setups for adults.

We highly recommend the early morning or late afternoon. Not only is the light more beautiful for photography, but the sand is cooler and more comfortable for walking.

Not at all. The sand is incredibly forgiving and soft. Our guides will show you the "Low-Center" technique, making it easy to stay balanced. Most guests are gliding confidently within the first ten minutes.
